If a payment fails

If a card payment fails, your trading doesn't stop straight away. What happens instead, the emails you'll get, and how to update your card in time.

A card that expires on a Sunday shouldn't switch off your trading. So a failed payment doesn't stop anything straight away.

What happens

Your subscription gets a few days' grace. Everything keeps working: your accounts stay connected, trading carries on, and nothing is closed. Stripe, our payment provider, tries the payment again over the next few days.

We email you the same day, and a banner at the top of the app says the payment needs attention. Settings shows the same, with the option to update your payment method.

The emails you'll get

Three at most, and only while the payment is still unpaid:

  • Straight away, when the card is first declined
  • About three days later, if it still hasn't cleared, with the date of the next try
  • About six days in, before the last try

Each one says what is happening, and that nothing has been switched off while it's sorted. They stop as soon as a payment goes through.

What to do

Open Settings and update your card, or use the button in any of those emails. Once a payment goes through, the banner clears by itself.

If the payment never goes through

Your paid plan ends, and your account goes back to free practice: building strategies and Activity. Wildflower switches your real accounts off so nothing trades. They stay connected, everything you have is kept and readable, nothing is deleted, and no open position is closed for you. We email you when this happens too. Update your card and subscribe again, then switch your accounts back on, and everything carries on.

What can go wrong

Check the email address on your account. These emails go to the address on your Wildflower profile. If it's out of date, the banner in the app is still there, and Settings always shows where things stand.

What's next

Changing your plan or card.
