Halts: what stopped the day, and how to reset

Some halts clear themselves at the next trading day, and some wait for you. Which is which, and where the button is.

Updated 12 October 2026 · 3 minute read

A halt is Wildflower carrying out a limit you set. The account shows Stopped for the day with the reason, and no new trades are taken.

A halt stops new trades. It does not close what is open

This is the part worth reading twice. When a halt starts, anything already open stays open, with its stop and target exactly where they were. There are two exceptions, and both close what is open as the halt starts, and say so: Daily profit banked, and Daily profit cap reached.

If you want to be flat as well as halted, use Stop everything, on the Live page and on each account's page. It closes every open position at market and stops new trades on every account until you clear it.

Halts that clear themselves

These clear at the start of the next trading day, which is 5pm US Central. You do not have to do anything.

  • Daily loss limit reached
  • Daily profit target reached
  • Daily profit banked, where reaching the target also closed what was open and cancelled resting entries
  • Daily profit cap reached, where the day reached your cap counting the trade still open, so that trade was closed at the cap and the day ended there
  • Too many losses in a row
  • The day gave back what it had made, where the day gave back the figure you set from its own best point

Halts that wait for you

These stay until you clear them, on purpose. Each one means something needs you to look at it.

  • Too many red days in a row. Resetting also starts the red-day count again.
  • The broker has this account locked. Wildflower asks the broker again at the next session, so a firm's daily lock clears itself when the firm lifts it.
  • The broker no longer lists this account. It clears if the account comes back.
  • The liquidation guardrail acted. It closed positions because margin use crossed the line you set.
  • A guardrail carried out your standing instruction. These never clear by themselves.

How to reset one

Open the account. If a halt is one you can clear, a Reset for today button appears next to the account's state. Press it and the account can trade again.

A halt that clears itself has no reset button, because there is nothing to press.

What can go wrong

Resetting a halt does not change the limit that caused it. The limit is still there after you reset.

Our team can clear a halt for you. When they do, the reason and who did it are recorded.
